A sales rep, an administration clerk, and their manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp. They rub it and a Genie comes out. The Genie says, “There are only three wishes, so you have one each.”
"Me first! Me first!" says the admin. clerk. "I want to be in the Bahamas, driving a speedboat, without a care in the world." Poof! She's gone.
"Me next! Me next!" says the sales rep. "I want to be in Hawaii, relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of Pina Coladas and the love of my life." Poof! He's gone.

According to WebPro News's Mike Sachoff:
While Yahoo is considered the second busiest search engine behind Google, when it comes to online shopping, Yahoo surfers may be the biggest spenders online. 
According to Wayne Perry, president of SiCap Industries, Yahoo surfers spend 30 percent more than other consumers on average.
"We haven't figured out why, but our web stats show consumers referred by Yahoo definitely spend more money on our websites, and according to data collected from our retailers, yahoo surfers also spend more money in the stores that carry our products. This has been a consistent theme for nearly three years," says Perry. |

The first problem is nicely answered by an open source WYSIWYG editor called Nvu (pronounced "N-View"). Nvu is based on the Mozilla platform and is free to download and use. You can't beat the price.
Nvu is fairly easy to use, but its learning curve will still be a little steep for true technical illiterates (such as me).
When I finally admitted that I could no longer avoid learning how to build a Web site, I went to Google and typed in something like "easiest way to build a Web site." One of the search results that came up was for a program called BlueVoda.
BlueVoda looks a lot like a word processing program. In general, it's more intuitive and easy to use than Word. You click on a button to create boxes for text or images. You put your text or images in those boxes. You move them around until you like how they look. You preview the result in your browser. You click on the "publish" button. You're done.
BlueVoda is by far "the easiest way to build a Web site" I've found. And believe me, I've looked really, really hard...
As with so many things in life, there's a catch. BlueVoda was created and published by a Web hosting company and it's proprietary. In other words, you won't be able to do anything with the files it creates unless you have an account with the hosting company, VodaHost.
Fortunately, VodaHost is the kind of company that produces free tools like BlueVoda for their customers. They're innovative, reliable, and they really emphasize customer service and satisfaction. They have a very active customer forum that makes it a snap to get useful advice, tips, and solutions from both company reps and experienced users. |

Write your marketing materials. If you are selling affiliate programs, often the work is done for you. You can create an autoresponder series from articles or email messages the site owner may offer. Check to see what materials the site owner offers. They may also offer you free ebooks you can give away, as well as articles. This will cut your work dramatically.
If the site owner offers email messages, rewrite these in your own words. Add messages to the series. If articles are available, then add these to your series too.
Set up your autoresponder and lead capture page, if you choose to use one. Then, write your marketing materials and start driving traffic to this page.
Commit to doing something every day. Test and track your efforts. Add new marketing techniques. Bad marketing is better than no marketing. Building a business is a waste of time of you don't market.
Internet marketing success depends on how hard you're willing to work to get your business out there. Organize your marketing, do it consistently, and you will see success. |

Another pitfall of Internet marketing is the competition, especially in certain niches like the "make money online" niche. Unlike your brick and mortar business, which you can set up on the street corner and be assured of your little slice of the world, especially if there are no stores like yours within miles, the Internet is not like that. Anybody can reach any web site from any place in the world. So you're competing, sometimes, with millions of sites. This can make getting your foot in the door extremely hard, if not downright impossible.
Another pitfall of Internet marketing is restrictions. Just as the field is wide open, it is also open to rules and regulations from all over the world. For example, in some parts of the world, you can't get a PayPal account. This makes it harder to collect payments from customers. Sometimes finding alternative payment processors is not an easy task. Some programs may only be open to citizens from certain countries, such as Associated Content, which is an article submission site. They're only open to US citizens. So sometimes where you live can affect how well you can do business.
And finally, there is the Internet marketing mind set trap that is very easy to get sucked into. Just go to any web site and take a look at how easy they make this all sound, and without spending a dime. More people than you can imagine get sucked into that game of make a million overnight on a shoestring budget. Trust me when I say, it doesn't work that way. Making a living on the Internet is hard work and does take a considerable investment if you want to see a significant return.
If you keep the above things in mind when and if you decide to get into Internet marketing, you'll have a decent shot at being successful. Otherwise, you could be in for a very long road to hoe. |

2. Write your marketing plan. Every marketing plan should include whether or not you plan to build a list or a website. These two elements are crucial because it's getting harder and harder to promote products without a website.
Building a list will help you cut your workload dramatically because you can build relationships with your list readers. You can send them other offers, as well as share valuable information.
If building a website isn't something you want to hassle with, you can build a lead capture page and make a simple one page website. Then, drive traffic to this page.
Without a website, many article directories won't allow you to submit articles that include affiliate links, even when those affiliate links are in the resource box of your article.
You should also include the different internet marketing techniques you plan to use.
This can include: search engine optimization, article writing, press releases, classifieds, joint ventures, or any other techniques.
If you are technically savvy, you can even include Web 2.0 techniques like making videos, or social bookmarking.
If you plan to use pay per click, include your a budget and know how much you can spend.
What techniques you choose to market your business will be determined by what type of business you choose, whether or not you plan to build a website, and what kind, and what techniques you want to use.
If you hate the thought of writing an article, no matter how effective, you won't do it.
Starting off, you should only use one or two marketing techniques and build on your success. Test and track until you find a marketing formula that works for you. |
